Fifty years ago, George Glenn arrived in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, to begin a one-year artist residency supported by the Saskatchewan Arts Board (now SK Arts). What began as a temporary engagement soon became a lifelong journey, as George developed deep roots in the local arts community, shaping its growth while refining his own artistic vision. Now, half a century later, Looking Through Time at the John V. Hicks Gallery celebrates his enduring contributions with a thoughtfully curated exhibition.

A Journey Through Five Decades of Art
In 1975, fresh from his graduate studies in Cincinnati and time in France, George Glenn traveled by bus from Regina to Prince Albert, ready to begin his residency. Welcomed by Margreet van Walsem, he quickly became an integral part of the local arts scene. Over the decades, George has developed a distinctive visual language—one that contemplates meaning through relationships between objects, landscapes, and spaces.
This exhibition brings together a selection of paintings, drawings, and installations spanning 50 years. It offers a glimpse into George’s evolving thought process, his continued fascination with beauty and unseen spaces, and the ways in which personal and global narratives intersect in his work.
A Living, Breathing Exhibition
One of the most unique aspects of Looking Through Time is its evolving nature. Each Monday, new artworks will be installed in the gallery, allowing visitors to witness the connections and progression within George’s practice over time. This dynamic approach invites audiences to return, discovering fresh perspectives with each visit.
All artworks, installations, and corresponding texts will be available online at LookingThroughTime.ca, with updates every week.
Coffee, Conversation, and Collecting Art
In addition to the exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to engage with George Glenn himself during Coffee & Conversation sessions, held every Friday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. These informal gatherings offer a chance to discuss George’s artistic process, gain insight into his works, and even purchase artworks from the exhibition.
