Learn on the Land: Plein Air Drawing Workshop with Jason Baerg & Elder Liz Settee

The Mann Art Gallery invites you to experience an evening of art, storytelling, and connection to the land during our upcoming Plein Air Drawing Workshop with Jason Baerg & Elder Liz Settee.

Taking place on Wednesday, July 29 from 6:30–8:30 PM, this outdoor workshop offers participants the opportunity to explore drawing en plein air along the North Saskatchewan River while learning about the history and significance of Kistahpinanihk, historically known as the "great meeting place," "meeting place," or "sitting pretty place."

Jason Baerg

Many visitors will recognize Jason Baerg from his role as Guest Curator of the 50th Winter Festival Art Show & Sale. His thoughtful curator walk-through offered fresh perspectives on the exhibition and sparked meaningful conversations with attendees. This workshop is an opportunity to continue that conversation in a hands-on setting, where participants can learn directly from Jason while creating their own artwork.

Throughout the evening, Elder Liz Settee will share teachings about the land and its history, encouraging participants to deepen their understanding of place and its cultural significance. Jason Baerg will guide participants through landscape drawing techniques and discussions about representing the land through Indigenous perspectives.

Whether you are an experienced artist or simply looking to try something new, this workshop is open to everyone. The focus is on observation, learning, and creative exploration in a welcoming environment.

Time: 6:30–8:30 PM

Location: Along the North Saskatchewan Riverbank. The exact meeting location will be provided to registered participants. In the event of inclement weather, the workshop will be held at the Mann Art Gallery.

• Oil pastels

• Drawing paper

• Tape

• A lawn chair or blanket for seating
