Jason Baerg

Guest Curator of the 50th Annual Winter Festival Art Show & Sale

Jason Baerg was raised Red River Métis in Prince Albert, SK, and now is a registered member of the Métis Nations of Ontario. He is a multifaceted Indigenous activist, curator, educator, and interdisciplinary artist, currently an Assistant Professor in Indigenous Practices in Contemporary Painting and Media Art at OCAD University. A graduate of Concordia University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Rutgers University with a Master of Fine Arts, Baerg co-founded The Shushkitew Collective and The Métis Artist Collective, highlighting his dedication to community engagement. He has volunteered as Chair for organizations such as the Indigenous Curatorial Collective and the National Indigenous Media Arts Coalition.

His work as a visual artist involves integrating digital interventions in drawing, painting, and new media installation. Baerg's international solo exhibitions include notable venues such as Canada House in London, the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, and the Digital Dome at the Institute of the American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Recognized for his contributions to the arts, he has served on numerous juries and received prestigious awards from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, and the Toronto Arts Council. 49th Annual Winter Festival Art Show & Sale February 7 - March 22, 2025 Monique Martin is an eco-conscious, internationally recognized, multi-disciplinary artist from Saskatoon, Canada with a 25-year exhibition history. She has exhibited her artwork in hundreds of significant solo, invited and juried exhibitions in numerous countries. Most of these were solo exhibitions in public galleries. Renowned international curators have selected her artwork for various exhibitions worldwide. Her works are held in numerous public and private collections around the world. Some of the major collections include: The Royal Alberta Museum, University of Washington Library, University of California-Los Angeles Library, Bytown Museum-Ottawa, among others. Guest Curator Monique curated 141 artworks and awarded the following artworks:

This year, Bevin Bradley, Assistant Curator at Remai Modern in Saskatoon, serves as the Guest Curator. With 133 artworks on display, the event promises a diverse and vibrant showcase of artistic talent.An Assistant Curator at Remai Modern with over twenty years of diverse experience. This includes the not-for-profit sector, co-owning a commercial gallery, and working within the school system. In the not-for-profit sector, she worked with underserved youth, using art as a tool for re-direction. She was the co-owner and co-founder of a successful commercial art gallery. Bevin maintains an active studio practice, including art residencies within the school system. Her founding belief is that art needs to be publicly accessible, and relevant to local, national, and international issues.

Wally (Walter) Dion is a Canadian artist of Saulteaux ancestry living and working in Upstate New York. Working in a number of media including painting, drawing and sculpture, Dion's art is concerned with issues of identity and power; it includes both representational and abstract geometric works.

His work can be found in the collections of the Saskatchewan Arts Board, Canadian Museum of Civilization, Canada Council Art Bank, MacKenzie Art Gallery, Remai Modern, Indian Art Centre, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, Portland Art Museum. (bio from wallydion.com/info)

Allyson Glenn is a visual artist based in Saskatoon. Allyson holds an MFA from the University of Calgary (2000) and a BFA from University of Alberta (1998). She has received grants from Canada Council for the Arts, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, BC Arts Council, and SK Arts. She is the recipient of a President’s SSHRC from University of Saskatchewan and three Elizabeth Foundation Awards. Her artwork is part of private and public collections including the University of Calgary and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. Her artwork has shown throughout Canada, and in the United States, Great Britain, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Germany, Greece, Italy, India, and China. Allyson lives in Saskatoon where she teaches as an Associate Professor for the Department of Art and Art History, at the University of Saskatchewan.

Heather Benning currently lives and works in rural Saskatchewan. She completed a bachelor of fine arts degree from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 2004, and a master of sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art in 2009. Between her degrees, Benning returned to Saskatchewan, where she completed several large-scale, site-specific installations. She has had numerous solo and group shows throughout Canada and abroad. Heather’s work has been reviewed in Canadian Art magazine, Sculpture magazine, Galleries West, Espace, and Uppercase Magazine, Studio Magazine, The Paris Review, and The Nation Post, etc. She is predominantly a sculptor that dabbles in multimedia.
