The Mann Art Gallery is looking for an energetic individual to fill the position of Gallery Attendant. As the first contact when visitors enter the Mann Art Gallery, this person is responsible for establishing a welcoming atmosphere on Saturday afternoons. They will greet members of the public and provide information on exhibitions and other aspects of the organization, while ensuring the security of the building and the artwork by directly monitoring guests and viewing the security camera monitor. There may be occasional special events with which the Gallery Attendant is expected to assist, for example, evening art receptions or special event rentals (evenings or weekends).


This is a part-time term position for 1 year, from July 17, 2019 – August 31, 2020.  The hours of work are Saturdays from 12:00 to 5:00 PM, with occasional evening work.  In Summer & Fall 2019, evening work on Aug. 8 is required (special evening hours 5 – 8 pm), as is work on the evening of September 12 (Art Reception, 6 – 10 pm).  The Gallery Attendant reports to the Director/Curator.


Wage: $13.00/hour


  • Open the gallery and ensure all spaces are in presentable order, as per gallery procedures.

  • Actively engage guests to ensure they have a positive and enriching experience at the gallery.

  • Answer basic questions from visitors regarding exhibitions, gallery programming, local attractions, facilities, and services; receive and forward calls to staff or take messages outside of office hours.

  • Complete required exhibition readings as assigned to develop a deeper understanding of artwork on display.

  • Ensure that the gallery is properly maintained and presentable at all times.

  • Process gift shop sales and program registrations.

  • Track attendance statistics.

  • Monitor exhibitions and artwork, and record any findings as necessary. Communicate any issues to the Director/Curator.

  • Occasionally assist with special events and public programs.

  • Close and secure building as per gallery procedures.

  • On art reception nights and during special events like venue rentals, assist in monitoring the gift shop and setting up / taking down chairs, assisting guests, etc to ensure event runs smoothly.


The successful candidate is reliable, enthusiastic, and has a friendly disposition. They possess excellent communication skills and enjoy interacting with the public. Furthermore, the successful candidate is able to work with minimal supervision and has good judgment. Previous customer service is required, and art gallery or museum experience and interest is preferred.  The candidate must be available to work Saturdays and some evenings.
